Introducing Rotherham Safe Space Mental Health Matters is now operating Rotherham Safe Space, providing out-of-hours mental health support when other services are often closed. The new service expands the support available to five nights a week, Thursday to Monday including bank holidays, and will introduce a drop-in offer, with no need for a referral or appointment. The Safe Space has also moved to a new location on Sheffield Road and has worked with mental health teams and local charities, to create a calming and welcoming environment. People accessing the Rotherham Safe Space will also have access to Mental Health Matters' 24/7 helpline, ensuring emotional support is available even when the service is closed. Jane Hughes, CEO of Mental Health Matters, said: "We're delighted to expand our crisis support to the Rotherham community. The Safe Space is somewhere people can come if they're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just don't know where to turn. We are here to listen and work closely with a range of other support services to get people the right help." The service has been funded by NHS South Yorkshire Rotherham Place. Dr Jason Page, Medical Director for Rotherham Place at NHS South Yorkshire, said: "It's excellent to see the continuation of the drop-in service providing mental health support for those who need it in a crisis. Providing quality, safe and effective support for our most vulnerable people is a key priority for the health services in Rotherham. "Having a safe space for local people with mental health needs can be crucial in helping people to feel safe and supported at times when they need it most."
