Our response to the Prime Minister's keynote speech at the Labour Party Conference Today, Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered his keynote speech at the Labour Party Conference where he placed an emphasis on renewal and reform of public services. Responding on behalf of Mental Health Matters, Chief Executive Officer, Jane Hughes said: "Mental Health Matters have had an informative time at the Labour Party Conference talking to countless stakeholders and helping to shape the Government's vision for the mental health sector. Today, the Prime Minister set his priorities but warned that the government could not offer "false hope" about the challenges ahead. There are undoubtedly significant challenges facing our sector and the Prime Minister must provide a clearer vision on what role mental health services can play in achieving the government's ambitions for a healthier society. Throughout the week, various ministers and senior Labour MPs have committed to a vision for healthcare that shifts towards prevention from cure and a focus on community services. Mental Health Matters welcomes the 'healthcare on the high street' emphasis that has been prevalent throughout the conference. We are hopeful that the budget will clarify the government's commitment to change". Manage Cookie Preferences
