On National Day of Charity, our Volunteer Coordinator, Natalie Santo, has written about the opportunities to volunteer with Mental Health Matters.

Why volunteer with us?

Our volunteers have a huge impact on the organisation. Your time and skills directly contribute to enhancing our mental health services, and many of our volunteer roles have a direct, positive influence on the experience of people accessing our services during what are often very difficult times for them.

Additionally, volunteering with us offers valuable opportunities to gain experience in the mental health sector, while also supporting your own mental and physical wellbeing, boosting your confidence, and strengthening your connections within the community.

Hear from our Volunteers

"Volunteering for MHM has helped me gain confidence in my abilities. I sometimes have problems believing in my capabilities – MHM provides a supportive environment and has allowed me to grow in confidence."

"The people at MHM are all so friendly and welcoming, it’s a great place to help communities. Mental health is so important, so I have found it incredibly rewarding to volunteer with a charity focusing on these issues".

Volunteer Roles available

We offer flexible opportunities that fit around your schedule and interests. Some of our current Volunteer roles include:

Community engagement Volunteers - help raise awareness about mental health services and the support available within your community. Within this role, we hope to find volunteers who are keen to support us in distributing materials, joining us at networking events, and engaging with the local community to champion our organisation and the support we provide.

Meet and greet volunteers - join us within our services to welcome people when they arrive at our services. We’re looking for volunteers to be the friendly and welcoming presence that someone needs when seeking support – offer them a safe space to sit, a drink, and a comforting face to greet them.

Group facilitator volunteers - Our group facilitator volunteers co-facilitate support groups. These can include arts and crafts, quizzes, walk-and-talk sessions, or special interest groups dedicated to skill-building and mindfulness. If you have a skill, passion, or a desire to support others in a group setting, we’d love to hear from you! In some areas, we also offer virtual group facilitator opportunities.

Micro Volunteers - Our micro-volunteering roles provide ongoing opportunities for volunteers to dip in and out of activities as they fit their schedules. Join our micro-volunteering team and be notified when we need support. Opportunities include attending or promoting events, getting involved in secret shopper initiatives to provide feedback on our services, supporting fundraising efforts, assisting with training, engaging in social media campaigns, letter writing or card making, curating or researching materials, translating documents, and ensuring our services are accessible to all. These activities are light-touch, ad hoc, and designed for those who want to contribute to our cause but are unable to make a regular commitment.

If you're passionate about mental health support, and resonate with our mission, we'd love to have you join our team. Whether you can give a few hours a week or more, every bit of support helps us reach more people and provide the critical services that make a difference.
