Building connections and community through work Whether through paid or voluntary work, employment is powerful in building connections within our local communities. It gives people a sense of purpose, belonging, and the chance to contribute to something greater than themselves. This year’s theme of 'Community' reminds us that mental wellbeing is nurtured when we feel valued and supported by those around us. A recent person who used our service commented, 'The Employment Advisor understood my health issues and was very supportive during our phone calls, helping me write a CV and cover letter which I didn't think I could do. They weren't local to me, but used a contact to get the information I needed about community groups. They encouraged me to follow a new path with my sewing/craft to see if it opens up volunteering opportunities. They also helped me see the issues with my returning to employment, and what I need to do first to make those steps in my own time. Their help, alongside my Talking Therapies appointments, has really helped my confidence, self-belief, and that I still have skills to offer.' Our service is always delighted to take part in local community events. Recently, the team attended several events hosted by Job Centre Plus, which offered a fantastic opportunity to support wellbeing and highlight the wide range of services available across the community. As a group, these days are always enjoyed. Being out of the office, meeting people face-to-face, and connecting with other local organisations is a wonderful reminder that the community is at the heart of everything.
